Free will is both created within us and culturally imprinted on us. It is also unprovable and rarely observable in either context.

“Before the prospect of an intelligence explosion, we humans are like children playing with a bomb. Such is the mismatch between the power of our plaything and the immaturity of our conduct. Super-intelligence is a challenge for which we are not ready now, and will not be ready for a long time. We have little idea when the detonation will occur, though if we hold the device to our ear we can hear a faint ticking.”
— Nick Bostrom (2016), technology philosopher

To believe that the very little we know of ourselves is all there is to us, and that our illusion of self is all there is to ourselves, is tantamount to equating a photograph with reality. What creates the sense of reality from perceptions is not an algorithm, it’s interaction. There is little more to us than our ability to interact and learn.
